ESRC would like to invite leading UK academic and non-academics to be selected for a two-day workshop in Cape Town to develop the scope of the programme, on 24 and 25 Feb 2015. Deadline for application is 6 Feb 2015.

The Economic and Social Research Council and the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) are collaborating on a new Social Science research programme, under the recently launched Newton Fund. The programme will foster long-term relationships between academics and practitioners in UK and South Africa, that promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries, and will build on work already undertaken in the UK and South Africa on the social science of the food, water, energy, environment nexus

In order to take part you should have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Social Science of the Nexus
  • Urban Transformations
  • Higher Education.

The aim of the workshop will be to consider a shortlist of thematic options. The outcomes of the workshop will feed into the Funders’ final decision on the themes for the strategic calls under this programme. As your role is only advisory, participation in the workshop will not preclude you from applying to these calls in future.

If you would like to be considered for this workshop, please submit a brief outline of your expertise and research interests to Alexa Mills international@esrc.ac.uk by Friday 6 February.
